I’ve been running on DD-WRT for a month or so I can start to get a feel for how much data I use.
Bandwidth Usage November 2016
Most of the time I use under 20GB a day. The odd day I might pop over that amount. You can clearly see when I buy a game on Steam – I think this particular 80GB download was for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Its clear that I will never go with a capped download. I like the flexibility of being able to download as much as I want, even if I don’t use it.
I’ve been offline for a number of weeks. This was due to a house move. It took over 4 weeks to get fibre to the new house and then I had to decorate and get furniture for the room where my server goes.
With the house move I’ve also gone for a server move. I’m now running on an old quad core AMD Phenom II. I probably don’t need anywhere near that much power for what I do, but its good to have it for compiling.
I’ve not had time to update my own personal blog much due to having a second baby and starting my own business.
On the baby side of things, everything has been going well and my wife is very healthy. The baby is due in August but I get the feeling that she’ll be early.
On the business side of things, I’ve been setting up an IT Service and Support Consultancy that will be targeting local government, education and small to medium sized businesses. I’ll be operating from:
The trailer to the film of Max Brook’s epic World War Z is finally out. A lot of people have a lot to say about it. Take a look:
Personally, I think it looks like a good movie and I’ll go and watch it, but what it doesn’t look like is World War Z in film, in any way at all.
I prefer my zombies the traditional way, where a slow dumb zombie is manageable and a horde of slow, dumb zombies are not. The point of a zombie film should be to build suspense and show that the majority of the time we humans are our own worst enemy and often cause our own demise, despite our intelligence, not to show a great battle between a wave of dead and the living.
They should have just made the film as they have done a called it something else. Maybe the story will be more like the book than what we can gather.from a two and a half minute trailer…
This technique will be invaluable when the zombie apocalypse finally arrives.
It means you can loot for food without having to worry about looting for a can opener and it one less thing to keep in your bug out bag.
I’ve picked up a new PSU for powering the Rock-Mite and using with other electronics projects I build. I settled for the MyDEL MP-6A, its a nice quiet PSU that will 13.8V, 6AMPS. This page seems to imply that I can use the same PSU for the Arduino, but its 1.8V over on what they recommend so I might make a post to the Arduino forums before I connect it.
With starting a new job in July I thought I’d take the plunge and start a blog to go with it. This way my friends at my old workplace can keep up with the things I’m doing. Yes, I could have used Facebook/Google+/Twitter etc. but there’s something about running your own blogging services that gives you a sense of ownership of the blog and will hopefully give me the encouragement to keep it updated.
For now the blog is up and running using WordPress with Twitter integration. I’ll hopefully add Google+ integration when a decent module comes out.
